December 2025
From all of us at Atlantic Energy, thank you for your valued partnership! We wish you a happy holiday season and a bright, successful New Year.
ERCOT - enters December with generally mild conditions but remains highly sensitive to short, sharp cold snaps that can rapidly spike load. Growing solar keeps daytime prices soft, while evening ramps remain the primary risk window, especially when wind is low. Natural gas sets the marginal price most hours, and winter gas futures remain elevated, raising the ceiling for scarcity events if temperatures drop materially. ERCOT’s resource adequacy outlook shows low overall emergency risk but highlights morning and evening hours as the tightest periods. Expect a pattern of low daytime prices with occasional evening peaks and the potential for brief price spikes if cold weather overlaps with low wind or thermal outages.
PJM - is more heating-sensitive than ERCOT, so December pricing risk is tied to the likelihood of sustained cold across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic. In normal conditions, its large thermal fleet and strong fuel diversity keep prices stable, but extended cold can stress gas deliverability, increase forced outages, and widen hub and nodal spreads. Day-ahead and real-time prices have held in a moderate range early this month, but the system remains exposed to multi-day arctic events that could push both power and gas prices well above seasonal averages. For now, expect modest DA–RT volatility, with significant upside risk reserved for any prolonged cold spell.
The holiday season is here, and we’re thrilled to announce that AE Texas is proudly sponsoring the North Pole Express in Grapevine, Texas! We've partnered with Great Wolf Lodge to help bring the magic of the holidays to life for families. This beloved annual tradition transforms Grapevine into a true winter wonderland, filled with lights, laughter, and the joyful spirit of the season.

This past weekend, our Marketing Manager, Emily Pittman, was able to take her family to experience the magic on Santa's North Pole Express! You can click on our

Environmental groups call for a nationwide moratorium on new data centers
More than 230 environmental groups — including major NGOs — urged Congress to pause approvals for new U.S. datacenter projects, arguing that rapid expansion (driven by AI and hyperscalers) is worsening electricity and water demand, raising consumer bills and increasing emissions. The groups say local fights that blocked or delayed projects (tens of billions in proposed investment) show national action is needed to require stricter siting, efficiency and grid-impact rules before more builds proceed. The campaign frames the debate as one about affordability and grid reliability as much as climate. The Guardian
National Petroleum Council and DOE push reforms for gas–electric coordination
The National Petroleum Council released recommendations stressing the need for better gas–electric coordination (pipeline capacity, tariff reform and permitting) as  natural gas and power systems become more interdependent. The report urges regulatory and market fixes to reduce operational friction that can impede fuel deliveries during extreme weather or spikes in electricity demand — a reliability concern for deregulated regions that rely on merchant gas fired resources. The NPC recommendations are prompting conversations among federal and regional stakeholders about near-term operational fixes and longer-term infrastructure planning. RTO Insider
